The Messier Catalog

The Messier Catalog was created in the 1700's by a comet hunter named Charles Messier. In his hunt for comets Messier came across many fixed fuzzy objects in the night sky that were easily confused for comets, in order to aid comet hunters he began cataloging these fuzzies as "objects to avoid". The Messier Catalog contains some of the most famous and majestic celestial objects such as M31 the Andromeda galaxy and M42 the Great Nebula in Orion. for a complete list of messier objects click here
